Foreign activities

Caritas Czech Republic helps in places outside of the country through humanitarian aid and development cooperation. This also includes arch/diocesan charities who provide adoption programs.

How we help

Humanitarian aid is necessary in the case of unexpected crises whether these are natural disasters (earthquake, drought) or social events (war). It can result in the immediate saving of lives. Caritas Czech Republic has helped and continues to help (often in collaboration with other partners in the international network of Caritas Internationalis), in places such as Haiti, the Horn of Africa, Indonesia, Japan and Jordan.

Livelihood recovery focuses on agriculture, fisheries, forming cooperatives and micro-loans which help to revive the economic situation. Such activities have been held in Indonesia and Haiti and currently take place in the Philippines. The promotion of organic farming is also carried out in Georgia.

Social work and health care is based on the extensive experience of charity work in the country. Besides preventative health programs and direct assistance to people in need, Caritas also focuses on sharing its experience with foreign partners. The target areas include post-Soviet countries, as well as Cambodia, Zambia and Mongolia.

Arch/diocesan Caritas groups focus on helping children, especially through a Child Sponsorship Program. In addition, they carry out a number of other activities that focus on education, children's leisure programs, orphanages and helping children who live on the street.

Assistance to the elderly is another service arch/diocesan charities provide and this often occurs in places that have historical ties to the Czech Republic - for example, Transcarpathian Ukraine or Romanian Banat.
