Local Caritas organizations

The structure of Caritas Czech Republic follows the Church hierarchy. It is therefore based on 348 parish, town, a district Caritas organizations - these are what typically carry out the individual services and facilities (link to directory on Czech website). The size of these Caritas organizations varies - in some cases they are purely volunteer-based, in other cases they have more than one hundred employees and provide services in neighbouring communities as well.

At the regional level these local subjects are associated into two archdiocesan and six diocesan branches of Caritas that operate within the territory of the given (arch)bishopric.

These (arch)diocesan Caritas organizations (links to Czech version of their website: BrnoPragueOlomouc,Ostrava-OpavaČeské BudějoviceHradec KrálovéPlzeňLitoměřice) are legal entities unto themselves and also operate social and health care services, and typically focus also on aid to immigrants and asylum seekers and occasionally also on international projects.


Secretariat of Caritas Czech Republic

Nationwide activities are coordinated by the Caritas Czech Republic association. The secretariat of the Caritas Czech Republic provides service to all Caritas organization and charitable facilities in the area of social and health care services, coordinates humanitarian aid projects and development partnerships and provides support to foreigners in need within the territory of the Czech Republic.

We also provide support to the government and public administration in areas of focus of the Caritas Czech Republic. We also contribute to the preparation, assessment, and promotion of nationwide charitable events and campaigns, particularly the Three Kings Collection. We administer a central collection account and work with the central Caritas Europa in Brussels and with the central Caritas Internationalis in Rome.

  • We also operate an Information Centre at our head office in Prague 1 and a Training Institute in Prague 2 offering not only courses for charitable workers but also conference spaces and accommodations for the wider public.

Caritas Czech Republic and other organisations

At the international level Caritas Czech Republic is a member of the Caritas Internationalis  and Caritas Europa networks, as well as a partner of the United Nations, the General Directorate of ECHO in the European Union and other international not-for-profit organisations.

Within the Czech environment Caritas Czech Republic collaborates with other partners particularly in the not-for-profit sector. For example, we are a member of the Czech Forum for Development Cooperation.
